On the Unit of Text Translation
Abstract

    The unit of translation is one of the most complicated problems in translation theory. Since 1970s, academics both at home and abroad have defined the unit of translation from different angles. Although apparently divergent, it is generally acknowledged that the unit of translation is dynamic rather than static, and translator’s cognitive role is of great account. Translation would be chaos if the unit of translation was regarded as a certain linguistic unit. This thesis intends to look into the unit of translation from a textual perspective, based on the theory of Wilss, a German translation theorist, who suggests linguistic text (co-text) research and communicative text (context) research be involved in translation. The author suggests in conclusion that text be the main translation unit as text itself is flexible and operable.

摘  要

    什么是翻譯單位？70年代以來(lái)，國(guó)內(nèi)外研究學(xué)者都從不同角度對(duì)翻譯單位進(jìn)行了定義和劃分。但是肯定的是翻譯單位是1個(gè)動(dòng)態(tài)的過(guò)程，譯者的主體認(rèn)知因素在翻譯過(guò)程中起重要作用。單純地把翻譯單位等同于某1語(yǔ)言單位只會(huì)造成翻譯的混亂。本文試圖從語(yǔ)篇角度審視和定義翻譯單位，并依據(jù)德國(guó)翻譯理論家把對(duì)語(yǔ)篇的研究分為語(yǔ)言語(yǔ)篇研究和交際語(yǔ)篇研究的相關(guān)理論，探討以語(yǔ)篇作為翻譯單位的必要性和重要性。
