Abstract

In English, the relative clause is also called the attributive clause, which is led by a relative word such as which, who, whom, that, and so on. According to the relation between the relative word and its antecedent, the English attributive clause can be divided into restrictive attributive clause and non-restrictive attributive clause. To find out the modifier in the attributive clause is always a difficult problem in its translation. This thesis emphasizes the importance of free translation by analyzing several kinds of translating methods of the subordinate clauses, and translating them into attributive structures, adverbial clauses, independent clauses, predicate structures and objects. It also uses the pragmatic method to explore the possibility of equivalence in meaning by transforming appropriately the surface structure, especially the grammar structure of a sentence, when translating.

摘   要

關(guān)系分句是由關(guān)系詞引導(dǎo)的分句結(jié)構(gòu)，這種分句結(jié)構(gòu)又稱為“定語結(jié)構(gòu)”。就其與先行項(xiàng)的語義關(guān)系，定語從句分為限制性定語從句和非限制性定語從句。定語從句的修飾對象1直是翻譯中經(jīng)常遇到而難以把握的問題。本文通過分析定語從句翻譯的幾種處理方法：譯成定語結(jié)構(gòu)、狀語從句、獨(dú)立句、謂語結(jié)構(gòu)、賓語等來說明翻譯中意譯的重要性，并用語用學(xué)的方法來探討翻譯過程中表層結(jié)構(gòu)（此處主要指語法結(jié)構(gòu)）的適當(dāng)轉(zhuǎn)變來達(dá)到意義上對等的可行性。
